Following my last post on your birthplace options, I thought that I would share a few tips to make that space – wherever it is - a more conducive environment that will allow your birthing hormones to flow.
Your goal here is to blend date night romance with cosy lazy weekend vibes… Think love, cuddles, calm and comfort.
Dim lighting: turn the bright lights off and replace them with fairy lights and candles (LED if not at home).
Warm socks and loose comfy clothing: layer soft clothing items so you can gradually undress easily as labour progresses.
Bring your home comfort wherever you are: a couple of pillows and your favourite blanket can totally change how you feel about that hospital bed.
Familiar smells: your partners t-shirt, your favourite essential oil, or any smells that make you feel happy and relaxed. My happy smell is orange blossom, what’s yours?
Photos of happy memories: your loved ones, your favourite holidays, your happiest moments together, all those cheeriest times where oxytocin was flowing!
Positive affirmation: surround yourself with powerful statements. Print those that resonate the most with you and put them on the walls amongst those happy photos. You can also make bunting if you are a crafty mama!
Boogie vibes and gentle sounds: make two playlists to accompany you through labour. One with your favourite dance beats to encourage you to move those gorgeous hips and stay active, and one that will help you feeling calm, relaxed, and focused. Don’t forget to pack some earphones and Bluetooth speakers if you are leaving your home.
