5 Misconceived Ideas about Hypnobirthing

Let's clarify a few things, should we?

1 – Hypnobirthing is only for hippies and tree huggers

Hypnobirthing is suitable for ALL parents who wish to prepare for a positive and empowered birth. My approach is very much down-to-earth, and all the information I provide is evidence-based and logical.

2 – I'll get into a strange spaced-out state where I won't feel anything

Hypnobirthing is not stage hypnosis. It’s about gaining knowledge and tools to feel more calm and in control of the birth experience. It’s about letting go of the fear, assumptions, and preconceptions that we have about birth. It’s also about understanding the power of a positive mindset and learning how to influence your birth positively.

3 – It won't work if I'm sceptical

Scepticism is a welcomed and logical approach to the course. I genuinely encourage parents to ask questions. If you're the type of person who likes to challenge things, this course is perfect for you! I firmly believe that being in control and ensuring you are at the centre of all decision-making when it comes to your body and your baby are crucial aspects of a positive and empowered birth.

4 – It is only for people who plan for a natural birth

Hypnobirthing is for ALL types of births!

Whether you are planning an elective C-section or a water birth at home, you will gain the tools to prepare for a calm and positive experience. You will also learn why and how to advocate for yourself, ensuring you are listened to and supported by your care providers.

5 – I just need to turn up to a course to get all the benefits

My course is structured to provide you with a complete programme of antenatal education, including fundamental knowledge about birth physiology, comfort measures, etc. as well as practical tips and tools to give you the best chance of achieving the birth experience you hope for.

However, beyond the knowledge, it’s only with practice (breathing, relaxation and reframing techniques) that you will be able to let go of fear and tension during the birth and achieve a truly positive experience. After all, just as you wouldn't attempt to run a marathon without practice, preparing your mind for birthing is essential to build a confident and positive mindset.
