Frequently Asked Questions

Why Hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing teaches women and birthing people to gain trust in their body and in their innate and instinctive ability to give birth. It releases fear and replaces deeply rooted negative beliefs about childbirth with practical knowledge and a positive mindset which can be applied to all pregnancies and any type of birth.

A study run by Midwives in Bristol a few years ago, showed a significant reduction of caesarean section rate; 16.6% for those who attended the hypnobirthing course compared to a national average of 25.5% over the same period. A quarter of these women needed no pain relief at all during labour, and 90% reported a positive birthing experience (100% positive feedback on the course).

The content of my courses is evidence-based, logical and can be tailored to individual circumstances.

When should I do the Hypnobirthing course?

I advise booking the course during the second trimester so you can enjoy the benefits during your pregnancy as well as at the birth of your baby. It is not so much a matter of learning facts so they are fresh in your mind, but more a matter of absorbing the information and practicing the relaxation and positive mindest techniques so that they becomes second nature.
However, Hypnobirthing has proven to make a positive difference in births for women taking the course as late as a few days before their babies were born.

What will I learn during the Hypnobirthing course?

My Complete Hypnobirthing course covers:

  • Understanding the mind/ body effect and how to build a positive birth mindset.

  • Breathing, visualisations, deep relaxation, and anchoring techniques designed to release fear, build confidence, and to help find calm and comfort during the birth.

  • Birth physiology: the stages of labour and what to expect in the first hours after birth.

  • Biomechanics for birth: understanding the importance of an 'active labour', birth positions, etc.

  • Preparing your body for birth: staying active in pregnancy, pelvic floor exercises, and nutrition.

  • Birth partners: their role and how they can support you and protect your positive birth bubble.

  • Birth options and birth plan: birth places and how to create a conducive birthing environment, comfort measures, the golden hour, and more.

  • Induction and interventions: the decision-making framework, understanding the induction process, how to prepare for a positive caesarean section, and more.

  • Birth rights and advocacy.

  • Post-course Hypnobirthing practice information and guidance.

Can I bring someone else to the course?

I highly recommend for the mother and chosen birth partner to attend together as I provide a lot of practical tools for birth partner support.
However, if by choice or because of personal circumstances you know that you will be attending on your own, please let me know and I can adapt some of the content to support you as best as I can.

And after the course - what then?

I will be there for you. All my courses include email and phone support right up to the birth of your baby and beyond.

The Complete Course also includes a free ticket to one of our Mama Brunch Clubs in Bristol and an invitation to join our Mama WhatsApp group.
